Little wet-winged butterfly
Little wet-winged butterfly,
The cocoon was warm
and safe,
but it was too small
for you to spread your Wings,
too quiet
for your Adventures,
too dark
to see your Colors,
and too tight
for you to Fly.
But it was also small enough
to keep you hidden,
quiet enough
for you to rest,
dark enough
for you to dream,
and tight enough
for you to outgrow it.
Little wet-winged butterfly,
the cocoon was warm
but so is the Sun.

For the last week or so, I’ve been experiencing this fun synchronicity around the theme of butterflies and cocoons.
It started with an online yoga class run by the lovely Amy Spicer. Right as we were about to end the class with a guided meditation, I heard the phrase “build a cocoon” in my head. I grabbed my huge, fluffy blanket and wrapped it around my entire body, encasing myself in layers of soft fleece. Amy starts the meditation and halfway through it’s clear why I heard that message – the visualization centered around climbing into a cocoon (her word).
Later in the week I met with a career coach to help me reach certain professional goals in my day job. We immediately hit it off and her coaching style very much resonated with me. Her business name? The Cocoon.
Finally, yesterday, I’m listening to a collective oracle card reading from Jessa Reed and when she starts to talk about the energy, she provided the metaphor of a “wet-winged butterfly“.
That’s me.
I’ve been going through a lot of changes recently in every area of my life. I feel like I’m growing, and it’s a bit uncomfortable. I’m leaving my comfort zone in so many ways, and it’s scaring the hell out of me. In my personal life, my friendships, my body, in my professional life (day job), and here – at Highly Spiritual Person.
Without going into the fine details of all of the changes, just know that all of this comes down to one thing: authenticity. Well, authenticity and allowing myself to be seen. Allowing myself to be more visible. Allowing myself to own the creative parts of me. Allowing myself…to create. Allowing myself to be multifaceted. Finding my voice and finding myself.
Growth is beautiful, but it’s also uncomfortable.
And I’m going to keep stretching my wings. I’m going to let them dry out in the sun. I’m going to fly.

What’s Next in 2024
I’m excited to announce that I will be launching a video podcast series starting in January! You can still catch the podcast on all of your favorite podcast apps, but I will also be offering video podcasts with exciting guests on my YouTube channel.
One of my main goals on Highly Spiritual Person is to help you build your own unique spiritual path. Whether you’re leaving a traditional organized religion that didn’t work for you, or you’ve had a spiritual awakening that’s changed the way you look at the world, I want you to know that it is possible to create a spirituality that works for you and grows with you. And building your own thing doesn’t mean you have to be alone. There’s so many other people walking beside you.
I think one of the best ways to explore how to do this is by talking with other people who have done exactly that. I can’t wait to debut these interesting, inspiring, and fun episodes with you all!
In the meantime, I’ll have a few more blog posts and solocasts for you all to enjoy through the end of the year.
And then in 2024, this little wet-winged butterfly learns how to fly.
